Black History Month: What would a Harris Presidency mean for women worldwide?

  • 5 November 2024
  • 2.30pm-4.30pm

About this event

Kamala Harris is currently serving as United States of America’s Vice President. However, in July 2024 after much-publicised disquiet over President Biden’s ability to win at the ballot this November and serve a second term as President, he stood down. This opened the door for his Vice President, Kamala Harris, to run for office.

This November the world could see the first woman of African and South Asian descent holding the most powerful office in the world. If Harris is successful in her bid to become the next President of the United States of America what could this mean if anything, for women within the US and women worldwide? Join the University’s Maia Network for a panel discussion event that will seek to analyse this question from several perspectives and maybe, possibly with help from our esteemed attendees answer this unique and historical question: What would a Harris Presidency mean for women worldwide?

This discussion is being held in recognition that the US Election 2024 is a historical event and is an opportunity to bring members of our community together to discuss its significance. However, we want this to be as safe a space as possible. We want to hear a range of views but are asking for conversation to be respectful and this includes not talking over others, making personal comments, and remembering we all have different lived experiences, knowledge, and levels of understanding and this will contribute to our world view. So, in that spirit, the point of the event is to discuss and learn from each other not to win an argument.
