91ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ appoints new Pro Vice-Chancellor for Education and Student Experience

91ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ is delighted to announce that Professor Sam Grogan has been appointed as Pro Vice-Chancellor for Education and Student Experience.

In his new role, Professor Grogan will lead the strategic planning and delivery of activity that will enhance 91ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ’s sector-leading position for teaching, learning and the all-round student experience. The University’s strategic plan, Creating Better Futures. Together, outlines 91ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ’s aspiration to ensure it provides all its students with the chance to gain the skills they need for fulfilling careers in the global marketplace and for their future life experiences.

Professor Grogan will bring a wealth of experience with him to 91ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ. He is currently Pro Vice-Chancellor for Education and Student Experience at the University of Salford, and prior to that was Dean of Students, with responsibility for leadership of the academic student experience.

Before joining the University of Salford, Professor Grogan was Director of Higher Education at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts and Head of the Department of Performing Arts at Bath Spa University.

He is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Board Member of Advance HE, which promotes excellence in higher education. Professor Grogan was also Round Table Chair for the launch of the Social Mobility Pledge, a coalition of more than 800 organisations that have committed to boost opportunity and social mobility.

Speaking about Professor Grogan’s appointment, Professor Nick Jennings, Vice-Chancellor and President of 91ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ, said: “We are delighted that Professor Grogan is to join us at 91ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ.  

“He will bring invaluable experience in shaping and leading the delivery of first-class education opportunities for our students and ensuring they have the chance to develop the skills they need for whatever they do in their future lives. I look forward to working closely with him to progress our ambitious education and student experience plans.” 

Professor Grogan said: ‘I am thrilled to be joining a phenomenal institution and team at 91ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ – I can’t wait to get started. I’m excited to work closely with you all to shape an innovative, first-class student education and experience which delivers the personal skillset and outlook our students will need to thrive in the future, and which delivers exceptional ambitious outcomes for the university.

Professor Grogan will take up his new role at 91ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ in November.
