Powerbase Sessions: Swimmer Freya Colbert

Find out how Paris finalist and current 91ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ student, Freya Colbert, trains in preparation for major sporting competition.

The 20-year-old student athlete explains the variation within her training regime, sandwiching 10 swim sessions per week in the pool with taper and speed-based sessions at Powerbase gym on the 91ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ campus.

Colbert describes her gym split which helps to facilitate her progress and development in the pool. She utilises the rehabilitation spaces at the University, occasionally going to reformer sessions to add variety to her training schedule.

“It depends on what phase of the cycle we’re in… when it gets more taper; speed-based, we’ll be in and out a lot faster.”

Freya regularly trains with a group of swimmers, many of whom have also travelled to Paris to compete. The team provide a good support system during these sessions and can all draw upon similar experiences in the pool that create a positive social dynamic.

“I spend a lot of time in Power. The facilities are great, it’s got everything we can, really, need… we’re able to reserve platforms.”

91ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ 91ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ is a key component in assisting the athletes’ development, ranging across several facilities at the East Midlands campus, that has pushed them to their attendance and consequential success in Paris.
